Another Great Year at Cenex-LCV2022
This year’s Cenex-Low Carbon Vehicle (LCV2022) exhibition was, yet again, a long-awaited event and we were very proud and excited to participate. The event and the exhibit brought together innovators and audiences who, due to their vested interest in low carbon transport and connected mobility, are always on the lookout for cutting edge technologies and enlightening seminars. They didn’t seem disappointed!
ePropelled’s staff were present at the exhibit, where we met some fascinating colleagues, spread the message about our ground-breaking new electric vehicle propulsion system—eDTS—and discussed performance improvements provided by it.
Chat with an expert
We were extremely happy with the interest in our system. What’s more, the event magazine interviewed our head of EV, David Hudson. The resulting conversation was a mix of industry-specific reflections from an expert with over 40 years of experience and his comments on its future.
When discussing the key trends in the sector, David pointed to “the need for greater efficiency in the use of stored energy on board EVs of all sizes. The industry has now realised that adding range by ever-increasing battery capacity is simply not a sustainable approach, so we must scrutinise the losses in every part of onboard systems much more thoroughly. This will mean a lot of R&D to do on components and on system integration, not to mention a renewal of interest in light weighting and aerodynamic performance at vehicle level.”
This is something many companies get wrong. New ideas might be great on paper, but they still need a lot of research, testing, and less reliance on large batteries. And with the batteries being an issue in itself, we have to remember that environmental concerns are here to stay and the industry should follow. In fact, David mentioned the environment and the resources needed when asked about the industry’s current challenges:
“The entire sector is working very intensely to develop and release EVs to the market in line with demand. This is placing great stress on the resources available. Additionally, recruitment and retention of staff is critical for every company, and we are pleased to see that there are now some initiatives underway to feed more graduate engineers into the motors/power electronics industry. Despite this, we are finding it hard to identify candidates with the right blend of experience and innovation skills who can add strength to our team across the electronics and mechanical systems disciplines.”
The second challenge mentioned here means that we have to work harder to find the right people, making ePropelled’s three locations around the world (UK, USA, and India) a huge advantage.
We couldn’t be prouder that we’ve made such an impact. David is an industry expert whose way of talking about EVs, our work, and its positive environmental and financial impacts is enlightening and entertaining at the same time.
Bright future
According to David, the event was filled with fascinating technology and inspiring opportunities, making it almost impossible for our staff to meet everyone they wanted and see all the speakers they wished to hear.
We are thankful to Cenex for organizing such a great event and for their interest in putting our director of EV in front of the event’s crowds. The event is becoming a yearly tradition for ePropelled. And it’s a chance to have numerous valuable conversations, meet fascinating people, and have a chance to explain to them what it is that we do. We are certainly looking forward to attending next year!
